We are a bioinorganic chemistry lab in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Houston. We use an interdisciplinary mix of biological and chemical approaches to uncover and examine the roles of essential metal ions and metal-binding proteins in the gut microbiota. We are especially motivated to understand how metals in beneficial bacteria can affect gut diseases or infection.
